DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\nThe Shaw Institute’s Executive Director\, Dr. Charlie Rolsky\, will be speaking at the 6th Maine Aquaculture R&D&E Summit will be held at the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine\, Maine\, on January 9th\, 2025. Hosted by the University of Maine Aquaculture Research Institute and the Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center\, this year’s Summit will focus on the challenges and opportunities presented by a changing climate. Learn about the environmental changes impacting Maine’s coastal ecosystems and their effects on aquaculture. Sessions and workshops will explore climate resilience\, sustainable practices\, and workforce development. \nPlenary Speaker: The amazing Halley Froehlich from UC Santa Barbara will be our plenary speaker and will share with us the latest knowledge about how the changing environment impacts aquaculture- and what we can do to adapt. \nWho will be involved? \n\nAquaculture farmers & Industry members\n\nSeaweed farmers are needed for a roundtable discussion on seaweed farming and climate change with keynote speaker Halley Froehlich!\nOyster farmers are needed for a workshop on selective breeding programs with Paul Rawson\n\n\nResearchers & Students\nSmall business advocates\nAnd many other fun and cool people!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an interactive workshop where you’ll learn about seals in the Gulf of Maine while creating a seal of your own! All supplies included. Limited to 15 people. TWO SLOTS LEFT AS OF DECEMBER 31!  SOLD OUT \nInstructor: Reese Wolfe \nSaturday\, January 11\, 2025 \n9:30 am-12:30 pm \nAges 10 & up \nFee: $26 per person (includes all materials) \nRegistration form\n(LINK TO BUY TICKET IS BELOW) \nReese is a local Blue Hill artist who has a passion for the fibre art of needle felting. He works as a custodian at the Bay School\, where he learned about the art\, and fell in love with the Waldorf style of needle felting. This fall\, Reese will be going into his junior year at UMO studying Ecology and Environmental Sciences with a focus on Marine Ecosystems \nHe is enamored with North American wildlife and ecosystems. You’ll notice that most of his work focuses on recreating their likeness as detailed as possible. In doing so\, he hopes to spread the word of each and every animal’s conservation efforts through his artwork. Reese will also be leading a felt-needling workshop at the Shaw Institute sometime in the winter where he can share his love for the art and the animals he recreates with the community.
